A Distant Plain was a game I read about in an interview with Volko Ruhnke I don't remember where, or how I found it, just that it wasn't here on BGG. They've since become one of my favorite publishers, with two games in my top ten of all time ( Twilight Struggle and Imperial Struggle) and several more just outside of it, with a legitimate shot at pushing their way in if they hold up over several more plays. Space Empires was only the second GMT game I ever bought, after A Distant Plain. Green hasn't put his starting units onto the board yet. And in between those two star-crossed Sundays, I got in something that I'd never dared dream I might see: a four-player game of Space Empires 4X. That's not to say there hasn't been any gaming going on, of course! I've been playing Pax Renaissance on TTS regularly, and I got in a solo game of the new Twilight Struggle: Red Sea – Conflict in the Horn of Africa the other night, which I'll talk about in detail here once I've had the opportunity to play it with another human. Fortunately it seems to be nothing more than a cold, but it also led me to skip a game of Nations last night that would have been the first of 12 dusty games that I challenged myself to revisit this year. On the 15th, I cancelled again at the eleventh hour because I felt like I was coming down with something and didn't want to get anyone sick. I skipped my weekly game group on the 8th to watch the Packers blow their playoff chances by dropping their last regular-season game to the Lions. I've missed out on a few game nights recently.
